Prices for owl boxes and related services are for Marin County.

Please note: Due to the extremely high cost of lumber, our Barn Owl Box price has increased to $300.

Site Consultations

Hungry Owl Project staff will come to your property and help you determine what type of nesting boxes are appropriate for your property, and identify locations for installations to maximize coverage for rodent control.

Consultations include one hour on site consultation, box delivery, and a detailed report with ideal locations for boxes and installation instructions.

In person consultation: $110. Additional distance charge for locations outside local Marin County service area. $60 for each additional hour.

Nesting Boxes

(only offering onsite pickup at WildCare in San Rafael, CA)

Barn Owl boxes require annual maintenance to remove rodent carcasses, feces and other debris. Maintenance must be performed when the boxes are unoccupied (outside of owl breeding season).

Barn Owl Box: $300
Screech Owl Box: $120
Bluebird Box: $80 (+ $30 installation)
Bat Box: $100 (+ $50 installation)

Metal Installation Pole: $100 (specially designed to fit our Barn Owl boxes)

Owl Box Installation

Installation includes location check, predator-resistant pole, hardware, pole assembly, post hole digging, box mounting, and installing box in cement base for stability and erosion resistance. More details owl box installation is on our nesting box install page.

Barn Owl Box and Pole Installation (includes pole and box): $600
Screech Owl Box and Tree-Mounted Installation (includes box): $250

Owl Box Monitoring

Monitoring season is April through May. Monitoring includes a report detailing occupancy and any recommendations we might have for the safety of the owls. If you purchased a box from us, keep an eye on your inbox. We will contact you in the Spring to schedule box monitoring.

Boxes above 12 feet in height or on a steep slope may not be accessible by our staff. If your owl box isn’t installed in line with current best practices we may recommend a new box installation or relocation of the existing box.

Owl Box Monitoring: $130 per box plus distance charge based on location.

Owl Box Cleaning

Owl Box Cleaning is conducted September through November. Yearly cleaning is necessary for boxes that were used by owls during the nesting season. If you purchased a box from us, keep an eye on your inbox. We will contact you in the Fall to schedule box cleaning.

Welfare Check

We offer welfare checks on a case-by-case basis where people may be concerned about the health or safety of a wild owl.

Welfare Check: $130 for initial welfare check, up to an hour, plus distance charge based on location. $60 for each additional hour.
